Hey,

I'm not exactly sure what the AWK code does, but we can get the domain name 
from /etc/resolv.conf with this shell script:

while read line
do
    case "$line" in
    *domain*)
        domain=${line##domain}
        echo $domain
        ;;
    esac
done < /etc/resolv.conf
